FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most, from bank connections and currencies to offline use, privacy and price.

How do I get an account?

While Exp Planner is in early access, new accounts are by invitation. Write to support@expplanner.com to ask for one. Once you’re invited, sign in with Google or with your email and a code, the same way every time. See Getting started.

Does Exp Planner connect to my bank?

No. You download a statement from your bank as CSV or Excel and import it. The app reads the columns, skips rows you already have and fills in categories with your rules. See Import from your bank.

Which banks does it work with?

Any bank that lets you download a statement as CSV or Excel. Revolut’s format is recognised as is; for other banks you match the columns once and the app remembers them.

Why not connect to the bank automatically?

Because that means handing a third party access to your bank account. Importing a statement takes a minute, and on Android you can share it straight from your bank’s app. Purchases from Google Wallet (Android) and Apple Pay (iPhone, via a Shortcut) can be written down for you as you pay.

What is “Safe to spend”?

Your own money on your everyday accounts minus the bills still to pay this month, what you’re putting into funds, and your safety buffer. If you owe on a credit card, a second figure, After credit cards, shows what’s left once it’s paid. See Overview and Safe to spend.

Does it handle credit cards?

Yes: cards, credit lines and overdrafts show as what you owe, a card’s statement becomes a bill with its minimum, and card statements import cleanly. See Accounts and credit cards.

My month doesn’t start on the 1st. Is that a problem?

No. Set the day your month starts in Settings → Preferences, for example the 25th if that’s when you’re paid. Every screen follows it.

Can I use more than one currency?

Yes. You budget in one currency and can have accounts in others. Purchases in another currency are converted at the rate of their day, and both amounts are kept.

Does it work offline?

Mostly. Screens you’ve opened in the last two weeks open without a connection, and everyday actions wait on your device until you’re back online. See Offline and notifications.

Can I share a budget with my partner?

Not at the moment: each account belongs to one person.

Is there an iPhone app?

It’s coming. Meanwhile, add the web app to your Home Screen from Safari. See iPhone.

Is the app available in Russian?

The app itself is in English for now. The website and these guides are in English and Russian.

Where is my data, and who can see it?

In a database in the European Union, and only your account can read it. There are no ads, and your data isn’t sold. See App lock and privacy.

How do I get my data out, or delete it?

Settings → Data & privacy: export everything as JSON or your transactions as CSV, or delete your account with all its data.

How much does it cost?

Nothing while Exp Planner is in early access. Paid plans will come later, and you’ll hear about them before anything changes.

Something isn’t working. Who do I tell?
