Taxes
A simple tax calculator. Describe each tax once, see what you owe and when, and find it in your budget and bills.
If you’re self-employed or have income on the side, you probably pay a tax on it every month, quarter or year. The Taxes screen works out how much and when. It has no country presets: you describe each tax yourself, in a few fields.
Describe a tax
Start with New tax on the Taxes screen (on a phone, also first in the menu of the round +), then fill in:
- What it’s counted on: an income figure you type in for the period, or the income from your transactions for the period, from the income categories and accounts you choose (or all income).
- How much: a percentage of that income, a fixed amount per period, or both. For example 5% of income, or a fixed social contribution.
- Period and deadline: a calendar month, quarter or year, and when it’s due: on day D, N months after the period ends.
- Category: the spending category your tax payments go to.
- Currency: your budget currency, or another one if the tax is set in it. Income in other currencies is converted at the rate of the day it arrived.
What you see
- Due in the next 30 days: how much is still to pay soon, and the list of upcoming payments, with “in N days”, “overdue” or “partly paid”.
- A card per tax: the rule in plain words, the next payment (period, deadline, amount, the income it’s based on) and, while a period is still running, the amount “so far”.
Paying
When you pay, record it as a transaction in the tax’s category, or open the period and choose Record payment. A payment counts towards the period it was made for. You can also:
- Skip this period, if nothing is due this time;
- Change the date or Change this period’s amount for one period only.
In your budget and bills
- In Budget, the tax due in a month is added to its category’s plan, marked “from taxes”.
- In Bills, every deadline sits among your bills, marked Tax. Tap it to open the period.
