Android widgets and Google Wallet
The Android app for testers. The home-screen widget, shortcuts on the icon, purchases from Google Wallet, sharing a statement into Import, and notifications.
The Android app is the full Exp Planner with a few things only a phone can do. It’s available to testers now and is coming to Google Play. To join the testers, write to us; you’ll get an invitation by email from Firebase App Distribution with a link to install the app.
The home-screen widget
Long-press an empty spot on your home screen → Widgets → Exp Planner. The widget shows Safe to spend today with the time it was updated (“as of 10:42”) and a + that opens Quick add.
With credit cards on budget, the widget also shows what’s left after them (“−€1,363.74 after cards · 12 days left”).
The app gives the widget new numbers whenever they change; the widget itself doesn’t sign in or go online. The app’s text follows Android’s font size, up to 150 %.
A home screen is easy to see over your shoulder. If you’d rather not show amounts there, turn on Hide amounts in widgets in Settings → Preferences: the widget shows •••• instead.
Shortcuts on the icon
Long-press the app icon for New expense, New income and Import a statement.
Purchases from Google Wallet
When you pay by tapping your phone, Google Wallet shows a notification (“MERCADONA · €38.61 with PUMB Mastercard ••9809”). Exp Planner can read that notification, and only that one, and add the purchase to your transactions, marked to review. It works within seconds, even when the app is closed.
Turn it on: Settings → Google Wallet → Add Google Wallet payments. Android asks you to give Exp Planner notification access. If it says this is a restricted setting: open App info → ⋮ → Allow restricted settings, then try again.
How it works:
- Only Google Wallet. Notifications from every other app are ignored and never read.
- The right account. A purchase goes to the account whose name appears in the card’s name (“PUMB” for “PUMB Mastercard ••9809”), otherwise to your first account on budget. Rename an account to point a card at it. The settings show which card goes where.
- Never twice. The same notification can’t add a purchase twice. When you import the bank statement later, the bank’s line takes the purchase’s place.
- Without a connection, purchases wait on the phone and are sent later.
- Notifications it can’t read (refunds, new wording) are skipped and counted, never guessed.
Options:
- Pause for today: for a day of paying for someone else. It comes back on tomorrow.
- Tell me when one is added: a notification “Added 38.61 EUR · Mercadona” with Undo while the purchase is still to review.
- Last payments: the last 20 captures on this phone, or why one was skipped.
Turn it off with the same switch. It stops at once and the phone’s access token is revoked. Removing notification access in Android, or signing out, turns it off too.
Share a statement into Import
In your bank’s app, a file manager or your email, Share a CSV or Excel statement and choose Exp Planner. The app opens on Import with the file. See Import from your bank.
App lock
Fingerprint or face unlock when the app opens. See App lock and privacy.
Notifications
Bill reminders and the other notifications arrive as regular Android notifications. Turn them on in Settings → Notifications. See Offline and notifications.
