Glossary: what each amount means
One name for each “how much is left”. Safe to spend, After credit cards, Set aside for funds, Left in your plan, Saved this month and the rest, in one place.
Exp Planner shows several amounts that all answer some form of “how much is left?”. Each has one name, and it means the same thing on every screen.
| Name | What it is | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Safe to spend | Your own money for everyday spending this month: what’s on your budget accounts, minus bills still to pay, minus taxes to pay, minus Set aside for funds, minus your safety buffer. | Overview |
| After credit cards | Safe to spend minus what you owe on credit cards and credit lines on budget (and the interest the bank is expected to charge). What’s left once the cards are paid. | Overview |
| On budget accounts | The money on the accounts that are part of your budget. What you owe on credit cards is shown apart. | Overview |
| Set aside for funds | What’s put aside for yearly and other big payments: what’s saved so far plus this month’s share (plus any shortfall when a fund’s payment is due this month). | Overview, Budget, month review |
| Safety buffer | An amount Safe to spend always keeps aside. You set it in Settings → Budget defaults. | Overview, Settings |
| Left in your plan | What you planned to spend minus what you’ve spent so far (Plan vs actual). | Overview |
| Left | In the Budget table: a category’s plan minus what’s been spent in it. | Budget |
| Not planned yet | Planned income minus everything planned (spending and funds): what you can still give a plan. | Budget |
| Saved this month | The month’s result: income minus spending minus what went into funds. | Month review |
| Spent so far | What’s been spent since the month began. | Overview, Insights |
| ≈ … a day | Safe to spend divided by the days left, today included. When a credit card payment is due this month and paying it leaves less, it’s worked out from After credit cards instead and reads “a day after cards”. | Overview |
Nothing counts twice
Your everyday budgets (groceries, eating out and the like) are not taken off Safe to spend. Safe to spend is the money they come out of: spend €40 on groceries and Safe to spend goes down by €40, while Left in your plan for Groceries goes down by the same €40. It’s one amount of money, seen from two sides.
What is taken off in advance is what’s already promised: bills, taxes, funds and the buffer.
